6th TPWU Educational Conference will be held in
The TPWU Educational Conference registration fee is $55.00. (This was a constitutional change at the 2007 TPWU State Convention). Registration fee must be in received in the P.O. Box no later than 10:00 a.m. on May 16, 2008 and sent to:

Single/Double -- $85.00 plus 15% Tax
Parking -- $9.00 per day, Valet

The
$85.00 Room Rate is available until May 16, 2008. After that date the room rate
is $200.00 a night plus tax. The room block is almost full, so if you haven’t
booked a room yet, you should do so.
The classroom schedule is attached. We are looking at adding the Function 4/Saving Windows Class on Friday June 27, 2008 all day depending on the availability of the instructor and meeting room.. If the class is added, you will be notified as soon as possible.
There
will be flyers sent at a later date on the Legislative and POWER Classes
providing more details. The Legislative Class will include Legislative bills
facing postal workers and working people, and the
The POWER Class will include the 2008 Women’s Organizing open to all organizers, and other topics that Sandra Lira, TPWU Chairperson and I will be working on. This class is for all TPWU members, women and men.
Clerk Craft Issues will include Article 12, Excessing, Updates on Article 7, Principal Assignment Areas to name a few issue affecting the Clerk Craft.
Maintenance issues will include Maintenance Staffing, the grievance on MS 47, job descriptions, PER and PAR, grievance handling, testing, custodial issues, overtime, etc. to name a few.
Motor Vehicle Craft issues will include subcontracting of MVS jobs, and the work and grievances, employee involvement to save MVS jobs. Local Presidents and Craft Directors facing these issues should attend the MVS breakout.
There will be a TPWU Executive Board meeting including all state officers and Local Presidents’ on June 25, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. to discuss upcoming US Presidential Elections, Women’s Organizing Program, Legislative Bills needing action from APWU, the Parade of States, the TPWU hospitality as the APWU National Convention, and TPWU updates.

The TPWU Awards are as follows:
Bennett Stubblefield/Jonell Mackay Award to the outstanding TPWU member of the year.
Tom Davenport/C.D. Williams Award to the TPWU member who during the last year most promoted and contributed to furthering the political activity and involvement of the labor movement.
Jim McDonald Award to the TPWU member who during the last year most promoted and contributed to the furthering of education and organization programs of the American Postal Workers Union.
Pete O. Vogel Award to the TPWU member who during the last year demonstrated Leadership and Knowledge in the field of representation, contractual language interpretation and implementation.
These nominations with a statement about the nominee should be sent to Jeanie Franklin, TPWU Secretary/Treasurer no later than June 20, 2008. The TPWU Executive Board will vote on the names submitted in accordance with the TPWU constitution.
